This is my very first poster design, 1987.
The poster announced the 3rd in a series of design workshops at Kent State. I was in my first year of grad school and I was clearly aping Charles’ modernist approach.
In retrospect, I don’t see much of ‘me’ in this. I was struggling to put into practice some of the 2D design theory I had been taught in the undergraduate program. I think I was also trying to make my art director happy.
I really wish I had the original mechanical for this poster. While we had been working on Macs at this point, they were really only used for comping. The production and the art that went to the printer was Linotronic output and a conventional paste-up.
