Agro Modernist Birth Announcement Poster, Derek Samuel, 1998.
I don’t know about you, but at first glance I thought the ‘A’ was supposed to represent ‘mom.’ It’s not.
However, we’re left with perhaps a more disturbing mental picture: that of ‘mom’ laboring to give birth to a screaming 7,000 pt., fully grown UPPERCASE, Helvetica A (baby Aislinge).
Still, I kind of like the idea of a modernist birth announcement. Its a reaction against the treacly sensibility usually employed in this area.
And Derek, if you are reading this, belated congratulations. But I gotta ask, did you try the lowercase ‘a’ ?
